Volunteers, partner health workers, and program staff spent a full Saturday running a combined outreach event across three villages outside Kitui town. Alongside basic health screenings, the team helped several families complete late school enrollment paperwork for the upcoming term.

Local leaders have already asked us to make the event an annual fixture — planning for next year's outreach day begins later this year.

With two new programs launching this year, we're looking to grow our volunteer base across mentoring, academic tutoring, and event support roles. Orientation sessions for accepted volunteers will run over two weekends before placements begin.

The showcase capped off a ten-week term where students chose their own creative or entrepreneurial project to develop with a mentor's guidance. Presentations ranged from a short documentary about local water access to a working prototype for a low-cost phone charging stand.

Several parents in attendance said it was the first time they'd seen their child present in front of an audience — a small but meaningful confidence milestone the program is built around.

The partnership will supply refurbished laptops and desktop computers to our STEM Engagement centers on an ongoing basis, along with discounted pricing on future equipment purchases as our programs grow.

Eighteen students completed the full year of academic coaching, study skills training, and mentorship under our Academic Training program — the largest single cohort since the program began.

Several graduates have already secured places in technical colleges and universities for the coming year. We'll be following up with a few of their stories in future posts.

Following a three-week mentor training course, fifteen new volunteer mentors have been paired with students at two partner schools that joined our network this term. Each mentor commits to weekly check-ins for the full school year.

This marks our first grant from an institutional funder, and will directly support equipment costs and mentor stipends across two of our four core programs over the coming year.

We're grateful for the confidence this represents, and plan to share a full transparency report on how these funds are used once the grant period begins.

Building on the popularity of last year's holiday camp, we're running a five-day intensive this April covering introductory coding, basic robotics, and a design-thinking challenge students work through in small teams.
